Well that was ALMOST a stunner...but I know B&R just needed someone who would fit into the FREAK-PARADE! And I mean that in a good way.
Think about it...Julio was really the ONLY one who would need HELP breaking into country music--the others had either the talent/and/or the money to do it IF they really wanted to!
Hey, he can sing all those mexican/hispanic songs they got.
How about "Faster Than Angels Fly"...and that little ditty they do about "Senorita...Marguerita...glad ta meet ya..."

You gotta be kidding me -- Julio??? You are out of your frggen mind? Maybe you are being paid off, maybe you are trying to get a piece of the latino market, maybe you just have *&^# in your ears, but there were 7 other contestants who deserved to win MUCH more than Julio.
I had tremendous respect for you and your musicality, but obviously my judgment was impaired. If you honestly think that Julio's potential was the greatest out of all the other contestants, than MY perception of your abilities was way, way off!
You are a joke and wouldn't know real country music talent if it big you in the ass. The outcome of this show is evidence of that.

Well,well I am surprised,I guess from your point of view which let me say is small! Maybe it takes a man with a big set of balls to take a chance, how old are you 5? If you knew anything about Country Music or Country people then you would know, we dont jump the gun and shoot, what you said you thought was a man with talent. Some fan you are! Lets do the list: Maureen Mc Cormick- no history in music, serve stange fright, not to mention either crying,or happy?
Carnie Wilson- she has talent and her own Father could produce her in a heart beat,if she wants to be in country music she will. I know she can.
Diana DeGarmo- she is pretty, great voice, but she is still young and needs to grow, however I would bet she will pop up either in country or pop with the song she wrote.
Bobbie- right now he needs to work to stop self destructing! stop drinking and become the man he wants to be, I think he could if he realy put his heart into it. But he didnt have his heart into it, because if he did he wouldnt get drunk,
Sisqo- he had a great song, but pay attention he was dancing like he was at a pop rock show, he needs to go back to where his heart is and start over, he would be supported by his fans.
Dee Snider- for the love of god,no Dee is a rocker, and I love his music I grew up on it, but he could never be country, that is not where he was meant to be.
Julio- he wrote a wonderful love song, maybe instead of having a small brain, be open minded it may do your brain some good.
One last thing you were never a fan of John because if you truly were you give him a chance, dum !@#

I will agree that Maureen really wanted it. She also has a wonderful song. I saw the way that Randy (from Alabama) watched and enjoyed her song, I would make a bet anyday that, Maureen's son will be produced into a single. It would be nice if they made a CD of the show.
I also think she finaly got her wish, no one will ever see her the same. I dont think we will look at her as the teenage girl, but instead a wonderful,loving,sweet friend.

Julio was raised here. He even went to college in the U.S. He doesn't have a language problem to overcome. He just doesn't choose to speak English -- not country, either.

I am not sure what to say, half of the American people including myself, dont speak proper english. Also I just dont feel it is right to judge Julio, I watched the show, he really worked hard to do his best in english. He doesnt live here all the time, so yes it is more likely to speak his native language. Celine dion came to this country, and counldnt speak any english at all. none, but still no one made fun of her or slapped around the producer of her ablums. As i a have not been a c&w fan as such,i have not heard of you so i went into the program with no disrespect....for anyone on the show.
After seeing u berate the 20 year old for the reasons u did,after using your fathers position to further solidify your country image and after saying you would kill or die for country music and then award julio as the winner,quite frankly - I wanna kick your cowboy hat wearing ass!

I have always been raised to speak your mind. You have that right as an American. But since you were not raised here, let me give you some History. People like yourself with a closed mind,said Elvis would fade, his music will never be accepted. Then when Hank Williams Jr. step out of his fathers shadow, again no one thought he would make it either. However, let me say as I have the same as you to speak my mind. Where the hell do you get off, if we keep everything the same, such as music and singers, then you might want to pack your own ass up and go back to the out back. JR i loved the show we watched it every week. im sure you have your reason for picking julio .. but i personally enjoyed all of the artist .. will or would you consider releasing a single for the others as well...seeing now the music they wrote was very good ... i think my personal fav was diana, but i loved watching bobby, mo, dee,and carnie.... there songs really hit different spots in my heart and i can see where each one could find a place special for others too ....

John - I've read a lot of the comments posted here and the attacks made on you personally for it. As much as I did not want to see Julio as the winner, I have not lost any respect for you or your music. I am extremely disappointed in your choice. But I still think you guys are great. If there is another season to the Gone Country show, then I will watch. But if the winner is another disappointing pick (and by disappointing, I mean the last person that ever should have won it)then I won't watch it again. But I am still a huge fan of yours. It'd take a hell of lot more than some silly show to turn me off from you guys.

My husband and I have been DVRing your show and its been awesome watching it. We totally identify with everything you've been saying about country and agree with all the activities you planned to show the artists what we're all about. And tonight we finally got to see the ending. The ONE person we were SURE would not win was Julio. We were soooo disappointed and CONFUSED!! Did we miss something?!! ANY OTHER CONTESTANT we could have agreed with. They ALL made the effort in a huge way EXCEPT Julio!! We kept trying to logically find an explanation for why you picked him because you seem so smart and you seem to really understand country fans - and then you went and picked JULIO?!!! He wasn't remotely country. He wasn't AT ALL passionate about country and didn't even make an effort or feign an INTEREST!! I wish you would post a blog of what you were thinking because I don't see it AT ALL!!! I've grown up with country music MY WHOLE LIFE and I'm a HUGE FAN...but tonight I lost so much respect for you and your music!!! I feel very USED!!

I have new respect for John Rich, he has his reasons for picking Julio....During the last few weeks, I have learn alot about Bobby Brown, he's NOT the bad dude I thought he was. He really didnt even care that he had won and didnt deserve it. I was really into gone country and was so excited to see who JR picked and I dont know if I have ever been so disapointed. How about a show called "Country From The Start" to compete with "Idol" ?.... and we all know "Nashville Star" is rigged. It became more of a reality show when they hired the producers of "Road Rules" and "Real World" from "MTV" INSTEAD of what it was supposed to be...a talent search! We as Americans want GOOD MUSIC!...PERIOD! We want people with REAL TALENT!...Julio? C'mon dude..give us a break....just another "rigged" show! I'm Sooo disappointed with you guys. Music is supposed to be about THE Music not money, greed and record sales. Granted they matter but shouldn't be the main objective. People like you are what's wrong with the music industry today. So hung up on record sales and money that you lose sight of what really matters. I may not like Bobby Brown but he sung his damn heart out and bared his soul and you guys only cared that Julio would sell more records. So, JR, i love ya. And Gone Country far exceeded my expectations. I was totally entertained, and I liked how endearing it was. Everyone turned out to be much cooler and nicer than i would have thought. and boy you really got me with your talks about what country music means to you, and how important it is to be authentic. then you pick JULIO, who is cute, sure, but that song was mid80s cheese! not country! it just was sad because you set up the competition one way and then ended it another. i didn't think you were that lame to go for the buck. i thought you were better than that. country fans love soul better than tight jeans. (okay, okay, but dwight yoakam had both!) think about the legends who have lasted. they had way more than sex appeal, they had stories and demons and stuff they overcame and they shared it with us honestly-- from johnny cash to merle haggard to my gal reba. Anyway, you just proved everything that's wrong with music row and i expected better of you. there were some moving stories on gone country, and some moving songs, rough as they were. oh well. and i'm sure in the studio you will help that crappy song out, but i'll always know something really innovative and cool could have happened and didn't. oh well. Gone Country
Now I have been a country boy and a big fan of country music for some time now and the decision by JR yesturday was very upsetting. Nothing about Julio's vocals were country at all, and if he was chosen because of his "x-factor" with the girls there are going to be quite a few good ol' country boys and ladies with ruffled feathers. Now I hope this doesn't hurt JR's reputation as a country star, which it may, but he should know that like he said, we are the hardest fan group to win over but the most loyal. And I honestly do not think that Julio is going to win over any American Country Fans. The thing that makes county music unique from other genres is that is it 100% good ol' american music and Julio's latin pop vocals just won't cut it with me!

All the more reason to support the guys who don't have the big record deals....there is more talent in this country than what they let us see in Nashville. Great artists get "shelved" to protect the interest of the big labels with all the money. I say again...the best all around artist in the nation right now is that guy Scott Bandy...who doesn't even have a record deal that I know of. If you don't believe me, check out his website. I've seen them all and this guy sounds amazing live as well. He is what country music outlaws are all about. He is an awesome writer and a hell of a singer. J.R. you should look into this guy and sing some of his songs....or even try to help a guy like him get the big deal. He suits your style....but has a sound of his own too. Listen to all the songs he has written and see for yourself.

John ,just watched the show what a disappointment. This show was fixed from the beginning after you said we've been looking for a Latin for a long time. That song is about as country as Beethovens 5th. I thought you were a smart guy boy was I wrong. That song is crashing and burning before its release. Look at the polls on this page duh 3% those are the numbers of a winners odds. Your credibility just went south.

Gone Country DVD????
I would love to see John and CMT put out a DVD with all the shows including the out takes and extras so we can really see how things happened. A half hour is just not enough and from viewing the extra's on CMT I can see we have missed a lot. Love the show John (and you look so good in the fur and sunglasses!!!!) Have tickets to one of your upcoming concerts and can't wait for you and Big Kenny to rock our country a@#'es off!! Hell yeah!!!!!

I love Gone Country it is awesome just like JR. I loved the episode when they had to work on Gretchen's farm they need to learn what being country is all about. I love Gretchen she is awesome.

First, let me say I never noticed what a handsome piece of man. When saw him get of that chopper pimped out in that coat with his hat OMG. He looked awesome. He is one sharp looking guy.
As far as my fav. for the show I loved Diana on AI and I think she has the best voice of them all. And I think her being so young that John would have a better chance of forming her into a country star.
